An amendment has been introduced in section 14A of the Pakistan Citizenship Act 1951 which gives right to those Pakistanis who renounce their citizenship on account of getting nationality of a foreign country which does not have dual nationality agreement with Pakistan. Whenever such country will enter into the dual nationality agreement with Pakistan, those Pakistanis who have already renounced their Pakistani citizenship may acquire it back under the new amendment. This right of resumption of citizenship was not available before.
Note: this legislation is still a bill passed by the National Assembly. It has not become an act of Parliament which is hoped to become very soon.
