In November 2022, the Islamabad High Court passed a landmark judgment recognizing the Right to Citizenship of Pakistani-born children of Afghan Refugees. The Court observed that Pakistan is one of those countries which has always recognized the principle of jus solo, ie birthright citizenship.
The case was argued by Umer Ijaz Gilani, who possesses expertise in Pakistani citizenship law.
